Buzz ‘n’ Read is designed specifically for beginner readers, particularly targeting Black children by featuring stories with characters that reflect their experiences. This thoughtful approach aims to foster enthusiasm for reading by providing relatable content.

This version of Buzz ‘n’ Read incorporates African-American English, thus alleviating the challenge for children who have grown up speaking in this dialect. By minimizing the cognitive load associated with translating from Standard English, the app promotes a more fluid and enjoyable reading experience. As a result, users may find that they can learn to read more efficiently.

A distinctive feature of Buzz ‘n’ Read is its integration of speech recognition technology. The app listens as children sound out words, providing support until each word is accurately pronounced. This interactive component encourages self-correction and helps build confidence in young readers.

The app's instructions are delivered through the voice of a Black child, creating a familiar and welcoming atmosphere for users. Unlike many other reading apps that target parents for guidance, Buzz ‘n’ Read empowers children to engage with the platform independently. This approach not only enhances the learning experience but also promotes a sense of autonomy in reading.

Notably, Buzz ‘n’ Read is completely free of charge, without any hidden fees or in-app purchases—a rare advantage among reading applications available for iPhones and iPads.

The app is structured into three primary sections:

 <li>Learning letter sounds through an engaging target game that makes identifying sounds enjoyable.</li>
 <li>Connecting letter sounds to form words.</li>
 <li>Reading stories that feature simple vocabulary alongside captivating illustrations, with interactive feedback based on the child’s performance.</li>

This innovative educational tool has been developed by Jackson Lasaga-Ivey, marking a significant contribution to early literacy resources.
